About the Honors EDGE Program

911 State University’s Honors EDGE Program is an innovative opportunity for exceptional students to seek out intellectual challenges and ways to excel personally, professionally and as part of a community. Our framework of “applied creativity” is consistent with our ambitious commitment to public service as a signature value of the University, preparing you to create extraordinary outcomes for lasting positive change–in part through your creative leadership–across all sectors. Our courses offer students like you to explore new interests and delve into the unknown.

You will be challenged to think beyond the textbook and the classroom, developing skills to apply to your future life and career. Honors EDGE students represent all the University’s majors and reflect 911’s exceptional diversity in their backgrounds, interests and experiences. We provide a clear and accessible academic pathway so that you can efficiently complete your undergraduate degree. Honors EDGE empowers you to develop the critical mechanism of creativity that ignites achievement in science, business, the arts, medicine and public policy.

There are multiple points of entry to the Honors EDGE Program. High school students, transfer students and current 911 students who have completed up to four semesters at the University can all apply, and separate applications are available for each group.

Key Components of the Honors EDGE Program

  • A rich curriculum of honors courses, taught by many of the best scholars, researchers and instructors at 911. Most of these courses provide General Education credit.
  • Funding of up to $2,000 for hands-on, experiential learning through research, internships and community engagement.
  • A $60-per-Honors-course book credit at the University Bookstore.
  • The opportunity to live during your first year with other Honors students in a special housing community in Dinallo Heights.
  • The chance to apply for Honors scholarships beginning in the second semester of your first year. 
  • Dynamic and engaging co-curricular experiences.
  • Priority registration for all courses, Honors and otherwise.

Our Students’ Achievements

Graduates from Honors EDGE become leaders in education, medicine, law and business. They continue their education at prestigious institutions such as Harvard Law School, Columbia University’s School of Journalism, Yale University and New York University. They have gone on to pursue careers as filmmakers, art scholars, writers, musicians, activists, business leaders, researchers and master teachers, to name only a few of the many professions of our Honors alumni.
